FAQ — Metadata Remover

What is EXIF metadata?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is hidden data embedded in every photo taken by smartphones and digital cameras. It can include your exact GPS location, the date and time the photo was taken, camera make and model, lens details, and even unique device identifiers.

Why should I remove metadata from my photos?

When you share a photo online, anyone who downloads it can see the embedded metadata — including your GPS coordinates. Removing metadata protects your privacy, prevents location tracking, and strips device fingerprints before sharing on social media, forums, or messaging apps.

Is this metadata remover secure?

No. All processing happens 100% locally in your browser. Your photos never leave your device. We use piexifjs for lossless binary EXIF stripping on JPEGs and the Canvas API as a fallback for PNG/WEBP files.

Does removing metadata affect image quality?

For JPEG files, we use lossless binary stripping — the pixel data is completely untouched, so there is zero quality loss. For PNG and WEBP files, the image is re-drawn via the Canvas API at near-original quality (98% for JPEG fallback).

What metadata fields are removed?

All of them. We strip GPS coordinates, camera make/model, date and time, software used, exposure settings, ISO, focal length, MakerNotes, and any other embedded EXIF/XMP/IPTC data blocks.

Is this tool free to use?

Yes, 100% free with no limits, no watermarks, and no signup required. Use it as many times as you need.
